I don't know about you guys, but one of my favorite things in books is when it makes me cry. Over the years of reading sad books, I've become almost desensitized to sadness in books, so getting me to cry is no easy feat. With that being said, here are some of the books that made me SOB (side note- all of these books were also 5 stars!)
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I'm sure you've all heard about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but let me just repeat what everyone else said: THIS BOOK WAS FANTASTIC!!! It's told from the point of view of formed Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo from the 1950s to the 80s. It had a bit of a mystery about it, and some of the lines just killed me. My absolute favorite part, though, was the dresses. If you know me, you know that my favorite thing in the World is pretty dresses in books, and this book did not disappoint. I didn't expect to cry given how hyped up it was, and yet I did. Please, just go read it, you won't regret it.
It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
Another very hyped up book, but also very much worth the read. It's told both in the present by our main character, Lily, as well as through letters describing the events of the past. I expected a love triangle, so I was quite surprised when it wasn't. I loved the banter, and as a sucker for anything medical I really liked Ryle being a neurosurgeon. I didn't cry quite as much at this one as the others on this list, but I still did shed a tear or two.
Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
Yet another Colleen Hoover book has made this list. Ugly Love is told from two perspectives, alternating between Miles talking about what happened in his past, and Tate explaining what's going on in the present. I definitely had a hate-love-hate-love-hate-love relationship with Miles, but all in all I did really enjoy watching Tate and Miles struggle through their situationship. As I mentioned above, I love all things medical, and Tate being a nurse was, of course, awesome to read about. It's the little things, you know? I literally gasped at one of the plot twists, and I was lightly sobbing by the last few chapters.
The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr
Our main character, Flora, has anterograde amnesia, meaning she can't remember anything day-day. I went into this book knowing nothing about it, and I highly recommend you do, too, which is why I'm not going to tell you anything other than to be prepared to bawl your eyes out.
Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott
Five Feet Apart was a different kind of sobbing. It wasn't lightly sobbing as I read, it was sobbing hysterically at 3 am for 30 minutes. The story follows two teens with Cystic Fibrosis who fall in love, but can't get within 6 feet of each other without the risk of one (or both) of them dying. There were some really loveable side characters, and I loved seeing Stella and Will's relationship evolve. Be sure to have a box of tissues nearby, but it's so, so worth it.
That's all I have for today, but check back soon for more, and as always feel free to leave a comment with a post you'd like to see!
